Leben
Volksschulen Ilmenau und Lage, Realschule Lage, Abitur Leopoldinum II Detmold. Studium der Germanistik und Anglistik an den Universitäten Münster, Kiel, Frankfurt am Main und Edinburgh. Assistent und nachfolgend Professor an der Universität Edinburgh.
Mitglied im Koınitee des Old Edinburgh Club und des Edinburgh German Circle; Mitglied der Association of Scottish Literature Studies und des Europäischen Sprachatlas.
